A conversation with Danny Fields (141, July 2016)

Itā€™s not possible to talk aboutĀ Danny FieldsĀ without dropping a lot of names around the place. Heā€™s the colourful dude of whom the New York Times said ā€œyou could make a convincing case that without Danny Fields, punk rock would not have happened.ā€ Heā€™s the man who was signed and managedĀ Iggy and the Stooges, signedĀ The MC5, managedĀ The RamonesĀ and worked in various roles withĀ Jim Morrison,Ā the Velvet UndergroundĀ and theĀ Modern Lovers. And thatā€™s just the bands: there are also connections withĀ Andy Warholā€™s Factory scene, his time as a writer (books on Warhol actressĀ Cyrinda FoxeĀ andĀ Linda McCartney) and radio DJ on New Jerseyā€™s WFMU.

Heā€™s the subject of the rather brilliantĀ Danny Says, a documentary by Brendan Toller on Fieldsā€™ life and times which was one of theĀ hitsĀ at SXSW Film last year.

Fields recently publishedĀ ā€œMy Ramones ā€“ Danny Fieldsā€, a book about the band he managed from 1975 to 1980. Containing over 250 photos of the band as well as commentary by Fields, the book is published byĀ First Third BooksĀ in a strictly limited hard back edition of 1300 copies.

The details:Ā Banterā€™sĀ conversation with Danny Fields takes place atĀ The Chelsea Drugstore, (South Great Georges St., Dublin 2) on Wednesday July 13. Doors open at 6pm and limited tickets are availableĀ here.
