Say hello to\u00a0BanterYard<\/strong>, a weekend of talks, pow-wows and interviews from Banter,\u00a0Dublin Inquirer<\/a>,\u00a0Nu.Ethical<\/a>,\u00a0Slow:Series<\/a>,\u00a0The Makers Stories<\/a>,\u00a0This Greedy Pig<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Psychology Society of Ireland\u2019s SIGMAC group<\/a>\u00a0at Dun Laoghaire harbour on Saturday and Sunday July 30 and 31. 1pm \u2013 Human Behaviour<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presented by Claire Howlin<\/a>, Brendan Rooney<\/a>,\u00a0Derek Laffan<\/a>\u00a0and Nicola Hamilton<\/a> from\u00a0the\u00a0Psychology Society of Ireland\u2019s SIGMAC group<\/a>. How do we engage and interact with technology, mass media communication, art and fiction? A delve into the psychology of virtual reality, Eurovision and dance.<\/p>\n

What does it take to stand out in a world engulfed in a batlle for attention? A discussion about how fashion reflects societal change, the unsustainability of the fast fashion industry, greenwashing, changes in our shopping habits and how to disrupt fast fashion featuring\u00a0Dominique McMullan<\/a>\u00a0(Irish Times fashion writer),\u00a0Rosie O\u2019Reilly<\/a>\u00a0(Creative Director at Re-dress and founder of We Are Islanders),\u00a0Annique Van Niekerk<\/a>\u00a0(sustainable fashion designer),\u00a0Rebecca Winckworth<\/a>\u00a0(founder of White & Green Fairtrade Cotton brand), Yvonne O’Callaghan<\/strong> (SIPTU) and\u00a0Ali Kelly<\/a>\u00a0(Nu.Ethical). The ins and outs of how to see design from conception to completion\u00a0with\u00a0Steve McCarthy<\/a>,\u00a0Declan O\u2019Donnell<\/a>,\u00a0Fuchsia Macaree<\/a>, Rob Mirolo\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Roisin Agnew<\/a>\u00a0discussing their version of writers\u2019 block and the good and evil of procrastination in the creative process.<\/p>\n

12.30pm \u2013 Deep Breaths<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presented by\u00a0The Makers Stories<\/a>. Ann Lowney talks to\u00a0Peter Walsh<\/a>, the Tipperaryman who has been freediving since 2001 and involved in classical voice training since 2003.<\/p>\n

Both hobbies demanded huge efficiency and control of the diaphragm so he undertook six years of research into developing a science based educational programme of learning how to breathe efficiently.<\/p>\n

Peter has since launched Tri-Logic Rhythms and now teaches breathing efficiency for wellness and performance to athletes, singers, actors and those with performance anxiety or public speaking difficulties.<\/p>\n

1.30pm \u2013 Slow On the Weekend<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presented by\u00a0Slow:Series<\/a>. Thanks to technology and a move away from traditional 9 to 5 careers, the modern worker can potentially work all day, every day. So how can we install boundaries during our downtime?<\/p>\n

Aoife McElwain<\/a>, food writer and host of slow:series will be joined by\u00a0Ronan Hession<\/a>(civil servant and musician),\u00a0Michelle Darmody<\/a>\u00a0(owner of\u00a0Cake Cafe<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Slice<\/a>) and\u00a0Leisha McGrath<\/a>\u00a0(organisational psychologist), who will share their stories of how they\u2019re learning to protect their free-time and slow down on the weekend.<\/p>\n

2.30pm Better together: are Irish publications ignoring their readers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presented by\u00a0Dublin Inquirer<\/a>. Publications are finding new ways to use technologies to work with their readers \u2014 through collaborative projects, by asking them what they want journalists to cover, by realising that they can be allies in story-telling. But how well are journalists and publishers in Ireland engaging their readers? How do both sides see the relationship? And could harnessing the opportunities that new technologies offer help to foster a new era of public-interest journalism in Ireland?<\/p>\n
